For some, Canadian Junior Nationals lasts a week. It only lasted one day
for me. I was not able to make it out of qualifiers. I could go on
about all the things that I could blame for the loss, or I could just
take responsibility for my loss and go back and train harder. But of
course the sinlges match I lost, was not my best match.
I've heard a lot of people who had a bad tournament saying they were
quitting because they had a tough loss. Good. I hope they quit. If you
have an attitude like that, you will not make it very far. The Olympic
Oval is very unpredictable, and truly makes it anyone's game. Losing is
just part of badminton.
I understand the feeling after working so hard only to show up and
fail. If you don't believe me, consider the fact that I train harder
than 95% of the players at this tournament, only to show up and lose in
qualifiers. I was crushed. So that night I went to the badminton center
and did footwork until I couldn't stand anymore. If I didn't train hard
enough this year, I will for sure for next year. One of the most
important things I have learned from top players is to just keep coming
back. Canada's U19 number one, Nyl Yakura, showed me a quote that
illustrates what you must do to achieve...
"Fall down seven times, Get up eight." ~Dwayne Wade
