I haven't updated in what seems like years. I have been putting a lot
more into my training lately and that means less time for other things.
The easiest thing to cut out was my blog. I have received a couple
messages telling me that my blog has meant a lot to some people so I
have decided to try and keep it alive for a little while longer.
Not too many things new with me lately, I have been getting way better
and more consistent results since I decided to focus on doubles and
mixed, and I am also having a way better time playing in these events.
Many people have disputed my decision to specialize early, but I believe
it was the best thing ever for me. I enjoy badminton even more now. I
have also changed my racquet model to accommodate my new events. This
was super hard for me, since I am used to the extremely heavy weight of
my former racquet, the BK Taper 20. I tested countless BK racquets and
finally found the perfect one for me. I have changed to the BK NanoSparc
35. It is light enough to be fast, but still has enough weight for big
smashes.
School is still a huge drag for me. It's hard for me to focus on
something that isn't badminton for too long. Often I have trouble making
friends with people that aren't athletes or badminton players as all I
ever feel like talking about is badminton. I've been warned by random
people about the so called 'dangers' of burn out, saying that I will
lose all interest in the sport. I like to think that I've already
experienced burn out towards life, therefore leading me to a lifestyle
revolving around badminton. From the ages of about 10 - 15 I
experimented with many different activities and sports. From music, to
hockey, basketball, tennis, and even skateboarding, the only thing that I
never lost interest in was badminton. During this time, I
was subconsciously searching for my passion, and thankfully I found it
without even really knowing it. Every day would go by, and I would learn
things in life and school but the only thing that I could think of was
"How can I use this to help my badminton?" It was thinking about this
sport everyday that finally led me to pursue it with everything I have.
I have never regretted my decision to leave home and train full time.
I have never regretted my decision to make my badminton my highest priority in life.
Basically, if you can't go a single day without thinking about it, just
do it. You are allowed to waste as many days in your life as you want,
it is your life regardless. And you will only ever get one.~
