Provincials 2011 Not a win, but a lesson.

So I didn't have the greatest tournament I've ever had. But it was great to have some good games and learn from my mistakes. I'll start with U19 singles.
I won my first round without too much trouble. I was playing my game quite confidently even though the venue was tough to play in. It was a school gym type venue so it was pretty slippery and the ceiling was a bit different than what I am used to. But I did get the job done. I beat Andrew Chen 21-17 and 21-15. My next round was the tough one. I played the 3/4 seed Matt Downtown. He plays a very unique singles game in the sense that he likes to play more like a box game style. I had a tough time adapting my mostly offensive game to his style. Unfortunately, he was the better player in that match and I only manged to get 11 and 14. It was very disappointing for me, but instead of beating myself up about it, I learned from what I did wrong and prepared for my doubles.
In the doubles I was playing with Eric Chiu. We are not a bad team, and we have managed to do well and surprise top teams before. In our first round, we beat a local pair 21-6 and 21-1. It was a great warm up for our next round which we knew would be very tough. In our second round we played Robbie Thomas and Chris Wan. These guys are crazy fast. They love to drive everything, and if you play into their style they will most likely end up dominating you. My partner and I changed our game to take the net more and take that away from them. We ended up losing the first game 25-23. This was a heart breaker for us and we couldn't recover our confidence in the second game, resulting in them taking the game and the match 25-23, 21-12. It wasn't a bad result considering our opponents ended up winning the tournament.
So overall, not too good, not too bad. My next tournament will be Nationals in May. Hopefully I can bounce back and surprise some people.
